Nunchucks with Edge
On Edge Games’s website, it lists a hardware collaboration between itself and Datel on the 3rd party peripheral controller for the Wii console. Drawing together the hardware might and experience from Datel and the famous trademark THE EDGE from Edge Games (You’ve heard of it right? I mean it’s up there with Coca Cola, isn’t it?).
First strange bit of information we noticed is that, if this is a partnership between Datel and Edge Games Inc. using their powerful, hunger destroying, world peace giving and famous Trademark then where’s the TM mark after THE EDGE name?
It’s true that you don’t have to feature such information, but trusting that there’s someone performing a little consistency check on Datel’s product, they would have noticed that the Wii has a TM next to it, on no less than three counts!
At the base of the box the only featured name is Datel, there’s no information about Edge Games at all, no license agreement or anything.
In fact if this is utilising the famous EDGE brand then why is it not in the official Edge font? Surely brands like consistency?
So many strange points. Maybe they mean nothing, who knows?
Being the curious types, we sent a product request to Datel asking about the chance of purchasing one of their fine THE EDGE controllers.
Soon enough we received a response from their technical support:
Thank you for your recent enquiry assuming that you are based in the US we are able to confirm this product was renamed to the product ‘Blade FX’ and this controller it seems to still sold in the US.
Renamed? But why? How are we to get our fix of Edge branded hardware now? Blade FX… pffft. I mean look at it:
In the email response from tech support they presumed we were in the US, does that mean that THE EDGE is still available in the UK? Let’s see…
Ahh no, a check on the Codejunkies (Datel’s own online store) reveals the DUO-FX, a wired controller, but no THE EDGE controller.
So where does this leave things? Well, Datel’s tech support said that the controller has been rebranded. If it’s been rebranded then it’s no longer called THE EDGE, and if it’s no longer called THE EDGE, then has it still got anything to do with Edge Games and Tim Langdell?
